Dr. Zakir Hussain took oath as the President of India in 1967. He made a speech on the auspicious day of oath. Bharat is my home is extracted from his speech. He addresses India as a young state of ancient people and pledges himself to the service of her old values and ideals. He declares to work sincerely for the economic, social and moral development of this great nation. He emphasized on people should work for himself and also for society . According to Mr. Hussain, education is the main instrument of nation-building. There should be no discrimination against anyone on the ground of colour, caste, religion and language. He said his role model is former vice president of India Dr. Radhakrishnan.
